3 tips for proper carpet care

Carpets add cosiness and a warm, cozy atmosphere to our homes. To ensure that this remains the case and that our favorite piece retains its shine over the long term and also to prevent dust and bacteria from settling in the carpet fibres, it is advisable to care for the floor-flattering carpet regularly. In this blog article we have put together the 3 most important tips for carpet care.

1. Vacuum clean carpets regularly

Regular vacuuming is the most important thing when it comes to keeping our carpets beautiful for a long time. Vacuuming prevents dust, pet hair, bacteria and surface dirt particles from getting stuck in the fibers of the carpet. In order not to stress the fibers of the carpet too much, it is advisable to use a special attachment for carpets on the vacuum cleaner. It doesn't matter in which direction you suck. The only exception carpets made of silk. Due to their sensitivity, these should not be vacuumed at all. Instead, with silk carpets, it is better to use a soft brush with which you can remove superficial dirt from the carpet in the direction of the grain.

2. Beating and airing carpets

Vacuuming sometimes only removes superficial dirt, so you should also shake out your carpet at regular intervals. This is best done outside on the balcony or in the garden. Alternatively, of course, the windowsill. It is important to only tap the back of the carpet. Tapping the front will only drive the dirt deeper into the fibers. Therefore, a simple brushing is sufficient for the front side.

Regularly unhooking and beating your carpet also has the advantage that it smells fresh again afterwards.

3. Treat carpet stains effectively but quickly!!

Your children were romping around or you invited friends to dinner and suddenly it happened and you have an unsightly stain on your favorite carpet Now it's important to act quickly. In principle, stains can be cleaned with a suitable stain remover or carpet shampoo if it is a product that is suitable for the carpet fibers in question. Carpets made of animal fibers such as wool do not tolerate alkali (lye), while plant fibers such as cotton, jute or sisal are allergic to strong acidic agents. Silk or viscose are particularly sensitive. In this case, it is advisable to consult a specialist directly. Synthetic fiber carpets are particularly robust, they just don't like heat or large amounts of water. Here you can usually fall back on a conventional carpet cleaner..

A tried-and-tested household remedy if you don't have a carpet cleaner at hand is mineral water, for example. The carbonic acid dissolves the stain, which can then be dabbed out or, even better, twisted out.n.

Baking soda can also be a helpful remedy for most stains. Put some baking powder on the stain, let it work in and then remove it with the vacuum cleaner.
